He pioneered in WiFi and Virtual Private Network technologies and product development on the global market in partnership with Sun Microsystems and was a pioneer of the Russian internet industry back in the 90s. Prior to becoming an entrepreneur, Alexander served as one of the top technical executives for the Soviet space industry, where he worked on the MIR space station and the Soviet “Star Wars” response.
He has over 30 patents for numerous inventions, including parallel processing, WiFi and VPN security technologies. Alexander was honored numerous times as the most influential person in the Russian IT and Internet industry by Forbes, best GP of 2013 by Venture Awards, was nominated for best venture capitalist of the last decade in Europe in 2012 by Investor AllStars and named "Technology Pioneer" at the World Economic Forum in Davos in 2000 and EY Entrepreneur of the Year in Russia in 2013. He received his PhD in Computer Science from joint authority of Defense Research Institute and MIPT and graduated from MIET from the physical science department. Advised Yamal Development, a 50/50 joint venture between Novatek and Gazprom Neft, on the USD2.94 billion acquisition of a 60 percent equity stake in Artic Russia from energy company Eni.
Counseled Novatek, Russia’s largest independent gas producer, on a share swap with Rosneft, whereby Novatek’s 51 percent interest in Sibneftegas was swapped for Rosneft’s 40 percent share in Artic Russia.
Advised Alliance Oil Company on its acquisition of approximately 75.5 percent of the shares in Kamchatnefteproduct and 100 percent of the shares in Solnechniy Veter. The former has two oil product terminals and 18 gas stations, while the latter owns an aircraft fueling station located on the Kamchatka peninsula.
Advised Carlsberg on consolidating 100 percent of the shares in Baltika Breweries, the largest brewery in Russia and Eastern Europe, including a public offer to buy a 15.45 percent stake for approximately USD1.2 billion from minority shareholders and subsequent squeeze-out of the remaining shareholders.
Counseled the shareholders of Novatek on the sale of a 12 percent stake to Total as part of a strategic partnership.
Advised Alliance Oil Company in connection with its acquisition of 100 percent of the shares in SN-Gazdobycha (SNGD) for USD128 million. SNGD has two gas licenses in the Tomsk Oblast.
